Choosing a Gas Supplier - Part 2

Your natural gas service is made up of three parts:
  1. Gas supply. Equitable Gas buys gas from producers located mostly in the Gulf of Mexico and Appalachia. Equitable Gas then re-sells that gas to you at the same price.
  2. Upstream delivery. To get the gas from the producer to our local pipelines, we transport it across the country through large pipelines owned by other companies. We have long-term contracts with these pipelines to ensure reliable service.
  3. NGDC service. This is the process of getting the gas from our local pipelines to your home. Equitable Gas is your natural gas distribution company (NGDC).

Currently Equitable Gas provides all three parts for you. You may have heard this referred to as a bundled service. You can also choose whether you want another supplier to take care of gas supply and upstream delivery. Whether you make that choice or not, Equitable Gas will still provide your basic NGDC service. It's similar to choosing a long-distance company while your local phone company provides your basic service.

What are the advantages/disadvantages?

Let's say you go to the grocery store, and you want a cake. You can buy a cake that's already made, or you can buy the ingredients separately and bake it yourself. Just like baking your own cake, choosing your own gas supplier has its advantages and disadvantages. Shopping around could save you money, but you may decide that it takes too much time and effort.

Do I have to choose a new gas supplier?

No. You may choose to keep Equitable Gas as your gas supplier. But even if you do choose another gas supplier, we'll still be the company that brings that gas to your home, so nobody will have to dig up your yard to install new pipelines. We'll also still be there to answer your customer service and emergency calls.
