Customer Service Line
Peoples Gas owns the main line located in the street or sidewalk, and the service line between the main line and the curb valve. We are responsible for the maintenance of both the main line and our service line.
The customer or property owner is responsible for the service line located between the curb valve and the meter, as well as the house line that runs from the meter to the gas appliances. The owner is responsible for the costs to repair or replace these lines. Reference the Installation Standards document.
Federal regulations require that only Department of Transportation (DOT)-qualified
plumbers/contractors repair or replace the customer's service line. Make sure that
the plumber you hire shows you a certification card with a valid expiration date.

Once the repairs are made, the plumber will contact Peoples Gas to inspect the line
and restore service.
